When I tell people what I do, many are surprised, and their minds start racing with intriguing thoughts. I don't blame them because, in all honesty, when I first embarked on my journey into Tantra, I, too, was filled with misconceptions and preconceived notions.
But it's completely normal. Tantra remains shrouded in mystery due to limited information and misunderstandings. It's often confused with the Kamasutra or associated with guru-led cults engaging in wild orgies or reduced to the experience of a Tantric massage which we culturally think is basically a “massage with a happy ending”. When I share that I work mostly with successful men, people get a lot of twisted images in their heads. Today I want to share why Tantric practices from different schools are great for men and actually do not involve any of this distorted image that we have around Tantra.
Let's set the record straight: Tantra isn't just about sex, even though that's what usually pops into people's heads when they hear the word. Tantra is a profound spiritual path, a technology that empowers individuals to break free from conditioning, align with their true selves, and live authentically. It includes sex of course, because it is part of the human experience, but this is only a tiny piece.
Now, you might be wondering, what role does sex play in Tantra? Well, here's the intriguing part, especially for men: While celibacy is a valid path to enlightenment in many spiritual traditions, Tantra, specifically some of its left-handed traditions, propose that attaining enlightenment through sex is equally valid. So, while some people might be celibate, fast and meditate in these tantric traditions you would aspire to attain the same benefit as them through mastering your sexual energy, which is immensely powerful.
Since it doesn't deny sexuality Tantra has developed practices that incorporate sex as a means of spiritual exploration and growth and it has expanded through many different schools and lineages. Today I will share with you the view of three of them, Tibetan, Indian and neo-Tantra.
Let's start with why sex holds significance in Tantra from the perspectives of Tibetan and Indian schools:
In Tibetan Tantra, sexual practices are considered medicinal. They believe in the connection between physical well-being, mental health, and a healthy sex life. In their view, a lack of sexual vitality is a symptom of illness. Therefore, maintaining a healthy sexuality is fundamental for overall well-being. Tibetan medicine may even prescribe tantric sexual practices as a form of healing. Why these practices are relevant for our time is because they remind us that investing in a healthy sex life isn't just about pleasure but can also serve as a potent stress-relief strategy. Tantric practices can be a legitimate path to healing and wellness. From these schools we have received teachings around sexual vitality, mental clarity, emotional balance. A thriving sex life is a vital component of holistic well-being that can motivate us to prioritize our sexual health alongside our physical fitness and mental well-being.
In certain Indian Buddhist and Hindu traditions, tantric sexual practices unite the physical and spiritual dimensions of life, transforming sexual energy into a means of attaining enlightenment and communing with the divine.
These schools celebrate the body and sensuality, blending spirituality, the present moment, and sex. They offer us a unique path to self-discovery and a higher state of consciousness, aligning our human aspirations for continuous growth and development by allowing us to achieve a harmonious balance between our worldly success and our spiritual growth. Sensuality and spirituality can coexist, allowing us to experience a more profound sense of joy and fulfillment in our lives. The neo tantric practices can help you achieve states similar to psychedelics, but through breath, movement, sound and sex.
Sex is fundamental in Tantra, serving as a path to healing, enlightenment, and self-discovery. This sets Tantra apart from religions that often suppress or stigmatize sexuality.

In the West, our introduction to Tantra primarily comes from neo-tantric schools, which place greater emphasis on sexual practices. This is often seen as a response to the repression imposed by Western religions and systems. These practices incorporate breath, movement, and sound to expand orgasmic potential and have had a profound impact on many people's sexual lives.
However, some may find the "new age" aspect of these communities off-putting. But here's the truth: Tantra doesn't require you to fully embrace the woo-woo, peace-and-love vibe. Tantra can be approached in a more practical and grounded manner The tools and techniques can be remarkably practical and effective even without diving into the ritualistic aspects. They are extremely valuable since we can incorporate tantra into busy lives without necessarily adopting an entirely alternative lifestyle.
This is perhaps the most crucial aspect of why sex is so vital in Tantra – it's a path to liberation, helping you discover the sexuality that resonates with you. While teachings are valuable, your exploration of your beliefs and your own body and sexuality are equally essential. The goal is to find the freedom within yourself to create the fulfilling sex life you desire.
It doesn't matter which school you are tapping in; the practices are evidence-based practices with proven efficiency that will help you find personal empowerment, and liberation from societal constraints. I invite you to explore tantra in a way that suits your individual preferences and lifestyle, making it relevant and appealing to your personal and professional journeys.
Sexuality has been culturally repressed and conditioned for generations. Tantra enables us to start conversations that have long been silenced, reducing unnecessary suffering. Sex is natural, and pleasure is our birthright. Embracing them for what they are allows us to live with greater freedom, pleasure, and joy. It's a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, and it's a path well worth exploring.
